Peace of Mind, Built In: The Safety Behind LumaLanes
LumaLanes swim pacing systems are designed to be safe and reliable. Water and electricity can be a hazardous mixture. When pools are equipped with lights, pumps, and other electrical equipment, accidents can happen unless the necessary safety precautions are taken. LumaLanes has taken the following steps to ensure user safety.
1. Always plug the system into a GFCI (ground fault circuit interrupter) outlet at the pool deck. This is the type of outlet used in bathrooms and kitchens where water can come in close proximity to electricity. When electrical currents are deemed unstable, which can happen from water interference, the GFCI immediately shuts off the circuit to lessen the severity of possible shock. According to the NEC (National Electrical Code Regulations) GFCI protection is required for any electrical equipment used by a pool, as well as any outdoor outlets.
2. LumaLanes LED lights run on 12 volts DC, which is categorized as a low energy system. According to the ANSI (American National Safety Institute) 15 volts and above require specific safety precautions for pools and hot tubs.
3. LumaLanes has implemented multiple layers of safety measures, even though it is low energy and it is not mandated by the ANSI to do so.
4. Our power supply converts the power from 110/220 volt AC down to a safe 12 volt DC. The power supply is waterproof and has internal short-circuit overload protection. It meets all UL, TUV, and CE safety requirements. If any hazardous conditions are detected, it immediately turns itself off.
5. The 12 volt DC control box is fully fused, which means there is a circuit breaker that trips the device off if the flow of 12 volt DC current is overloaded or incorrect. If any of the light strips or any other part of the system should short out and try to draw more current than it is designed for, the fuses will trip and cut off the power.
In summary, LumaLanes LED Swim Pacing systems are safe to use in pools.
The safety points are as follows:
● Plug the system into a GFCI outlet away from the splash zone
● The power supply converts 120 volt AC down to 12 volts DC
● The power supply is water-proof and meets all UL, TUV, and CE requirements
● The control box is fully fused with safety devices that can stop current from flowing
● The LED light strips are waterproof and use only 12 volts to run
